For the sake of not having to write the same intro a million different ways throughout the rest of time, just know that this column avoids the overly long and sometimes dull process of full film reviews and instead opts to break things down based on what I thought going in, what happened while I was there and what I learned at the end of it all.  Hope that's OK.

SXSW Breakdown - Cyrus

The Impression:

John C. Reilly (the new boyfriend) and Jonah Hill (the creepy son) square off in a fight for Marissa Tomei.

The Reality:

Do not go in to this thinking that it will be John C. Reilly vs Jonah Hill in a ludicrous battle of wits.  In fact, none of that really happens.  Cyrus is more drama than comedy (although, there are a handful of very hilarious parts), and because of how intimately the movie is shot by the Duplass brothers you'll spend much of it genuinely wrapped up and involved in the awkward, but good for them all relationship that the three main characters are building.

On a side note, John C. Reilly is great in this, and I'd love to see him do smaller movies more.

The Lesson:

Sometimes most of the funny parts are all in the trailer.
