For the sake of not having to write the same intro a million different ways throughout the rest of time, just know that this column avoids the overly long and sometimes dull process of full film reviews and instead opts to break things down based on what I thought going in, what happened while I was there and what I learned at the end of it all.  Hope that's OK.

SXSW Breakdown - Micmacs

The Impression:

A guy gets shot in the head, somehow survives and then decides to take down those responsible for "ruining" his life.

The Reality:

Even if I had been told ahead of time to expect a zany French film full of revenge-oriented motives and Ocean's 11-like qualities, I think I still would have been surprised by Micmacs.  So very hilarious.  So very charming.  So very enthralling.  It's seriously brilliant, and I expect to hear a lot more about as the year goes on.  I just hope that as you gather info about it nothing is spoiled, because it's really a film worth discovering in full on your own.

The Lesson:

Jean-Pierre Jeunet might be a comedic genius.
