Time for your weekly notable news update!  Below you'll find a slew of sentences meant to provide a brief glimpse of what's been going on over the past week in movieland.  If something leaves you desperate for more info then my advice is to do a little extra research on one or all of the following fantastic sites:  Latino Review, Dark Horizons, Ain't It Cool News, CHUD and/or JoBlo.  Now, read on!

Movie News Rundown

It looks as though the rather unknown Benjamin Walker will play Beast in Matthew Vaughn's  X-Men: First Class.

It's really great to see Sofia Coppola back.  Here's the trailer for Somewhere.

Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) has been cast as one of the main characters in Battleship.  The board game adaptation is set to be directed by Peter Berg (Hancock).

The new American trailer makes the movie look a bit more action-filled.  Check it out.

After a few months of speculation, Leonardo DiCaprio has been confirmed to be playing J. Edgar Hoover in Clint Eastwood's currently untitled biopic that's based on the famous FBI Director.

Sam Worthington (Avatar) is said to be considering whether or not to stay attached to Man On A Ledge (it's about a cop who creates a diversion for a diamond heist) or to replace Martin Lawrence in This Means War (a romantic comedy about spys).

Conviction looks like it could be solid.  See the trailer here.

Logan's Run is once again in the process of possibly being remade.  This time it's Alex Garland (28 Days Later) who has been brought in to pen a script.

Tom Hanks, James McAvoy, Ian McKellen, Natalie Portman and Halley Berry will star in Cloud Atlas.  The book it's being adapted from apparently follows a group of people over the span of a millennia.

A remake of Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead is currently being mulled over.

Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D has a trailer.  Do people still care about these movies?

Louis Leterrier (Clash Of The Titans) might direct Gravity.  The plot is currently unknown, but it's said to be a disaster movie (no pun intended).

Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum will star in The Vow.  The movie, which is supposedly based on a true story, is about a man who must win his wife's heart again after she is in a car accident and loses her memory of him.

Don Cheadle and Frieda Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) have reportedly been offered roles in the poorly titled Planet Of The Apes: Rise Of The Apes.

The trailer for The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader is now up.  I couldn't be less excited.

Bradley Cooper will star in a currently untitled baseball movie for Disney.  The flick is said to follow a major leaguer who gets hurt and must work is way back up from the minors.

Here's the trailer for Luke Wilson's Middle Men.  Could be fun.

David Yates (Harry Potter) may direct an adaptation of the graphic novel Fables.  The series followed characters from famous fables who have all gathered in a community in New York City.

Here's a Smurfs teaser.  Sad.

Corey Edwards (Hoodwinked) recently mentioned on his Twitter account that he had his Fraggle Rock script returned to him because it wasn't "edgy" enough.

The new trailer for Never Let Me Go looks rather creepy.

Russell Crowe will star in The Equalizer.  The movie is an adaptation of the 80s TV series that followed a former secret agent who tries to make up for his dark past by helping those in need.

Doug Liman may abandon his Three Musketeers movie (probably because Paul WS Anderson's will be completed long before his) in favor of All You Need Is Kill.  The plot is said to revolve around a soldier who must figure out why he has to repeatedly relive the day he dies on the battlefield.

Robert Rodriguez has reportedly been offered the director's job for the Deadpool movie.

Is Kevin Spacey back?  I hope so.  Here's the trailer for Bagman.

Sam Raimi has officially signed on to direct Oz: The Great And Powerful.

Saw this trailer for Legend Of The Guardians in front of Toy Story 3.  Really not sure what to think.
