Time for your weekly notable news update!  Below you'll find a slew of sentences meant to provide a brief glimpse of what's been going on over the past week in movieland.  If something leaves you desperate for more info then my advice is to do a little extra research on one or all of the following fantastic sites:  Latino Review, Dark Horizons, Ain't It Cool News, CHUD and/or JoBlo.  Now, read on!

Movie News Rundown

Disney is reportedly interested in doing a prequel to The Wizard Of Oz titled Oz: The Great And Powerful.  Sam Raimi is said to be the studio's preferred director.

Anton Yelchin (Charlie Bartlett, Terminator Salvation) and Aaron Johnson (Kick Ass) are now rumored to be possible choices to play the new Peter Parker.  This search may never end.

It seems as though Clash Of The Titans 2 is a go.  Jonathan Liebesman (Darkness Falls) is in talks to direct.

Disney has released a trailer for Tangled.  It doesn't look good.

Angelina Jolie might play Cleopatra in the adaptation of the upcoming biography Cleopatra: A Life.

Because you asked that the story be treated with respect and honor, Bill Condon's Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will be split into two movies.

The third Batman film from Christopher Nolan will start shooting in March, 2011.

Um.  Here's what may or may not be a trailer for Rango.

Michael Bay has confirmed a few things about Transformers 3.  It will be in 3D.  The two little racists robots won't be back.  Shockwave is the villain.

Warner Bros. is said to be working on a Flash script and (already) a sequel to Green Lantern.

Tony Gilroy has been hired to write a fourth Bourne movie (he also wrote the first three).  However, it doesn't look as though Paul Greengrass or Matt Damon will return.

I had no faith in this movie, but with every trailer The Sorcerer's Apprentice looks kind of like silly fun.

Paramount and MTV Films are looking to do a spin-off with Les Grossman (Tom Cruise) from Tropic Thunder.  Ben Stiller will produce and Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim) will pen the script.

A Bermuda Triangle-centric plot for Indy 5 showed up online earlier this week, but producer Frank Marshall quickly killed it.

Some possible titles have surfaced.  The next John McClane adventure may be called Die Hard 24/7 and The Thing and Co. may start over in Fantastic Four Reborn.

Michael Fassbender (Inglorious Basterds) is rumored to be up for roles in X-Men: First Class (Magneto) and the Spider-Man reboot (unknown villain).

Not sure what Dogtooth is actually about, but the trailer looks interesting.

Stanley Tucci has been cast in Captain America: The First Avenger.

Nick Nolte and Jennifer Garner are said to be close to joining the cast of the Russell Brand and Helen Miren-lead remake of Arthur.

There's some rumors floating around that sequels to The Departed, Mean Girls and Taken are being discussed.

MGM has put the remake of Red Dawn on hold because of money woes.

F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job) may direct Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx in the adaptation of the video game Kane And Lynch.
