What can you make of a band that that names itself Damage Pants and is billed as the sweatiest band in Austin, TX? As you probably guessed it’s not a band that takes itself too seriously. The group started as a lark, just a couple of dudes having fun, but it has now been together for over three years.

Damage Pants features Robert Davis on drums and Kyle Smith alternating on guitar/bass with both guys contributing vocals. They released their self titled debut on vinyl via Bombay Cove Records and I’m here to tell you it’s loud, thrashing, distortion-filled and downright awesome. The songs can be described as garage punk, noise rock, and probably half a dozen other of the heavier genres. Listening to it you notice similarities to bands like Death from Above 1979, The Jesus Lizard, Japandroids, and Shellac. I love the aggressive rhythms employed by all those bands so it’s no wonder I’m championing Damage Pants.

There are only a half-dozen or so videos of Damage Pants out there but watch one and you can’t deny the moxie of their live performances. They turn the amps to eleven and it’s go time! They disprove any notion that a duo can’t rock a crowd as hard as any full size band. This amped up, noisy, and pounding rhythm rock isn’t for everyone…but in my opinion, it should be.
