Today's Quick Mention: Don't forget
that Brad from the local
blog
Both Sides Of The Mouth will be making his debut
post here at SOTO tomorrow (John Michael is out for
at least the summer). The guy does some pretty
nifty art and knows what he's talking about, so be
sure to drop by and take a look. Also, from
June 21 to June 27 the site is going to be on break,
as I will be hanging on in San Francisco that week.
If you live there and want to give me a high five
then let me know!
As has been the case all year, I'm following up a
podcast-empty weekend with a nice five-song set.
Enjoy.

- Pen To The Paper:
I'm a little surprised I haven't heard about this band
earlier, but I can live with better later than never.
Their sound is pretty straight forward pop rock, but they
have some spunk and just the right amount of warm fuzz to
make you want to keep coming back for more. The only
other track I've heard from them had a similar style, so my
guess is that their upcoming album won't be too different
than this, and that's a good thing. Their self titled
LP is due June 8.

Elson - The Ghost That Walks:
I don't care who it is or how or why it's there, but if a
piece of music has Jack White's name on it then I'm going to
give it a chance. Although, you should know, that
doesn't necessarily mean I'm going have high expectations
for it or actually like it. So how does his wife's
album stack up? I haven't heard it all, so I don't
know. This track though, is a an absolute gem.
The Ghost Who Walks just came out this past Tuesday
on JW's Third Man Records.
:Neiliyo
- Springtime:
If you asked about what could be expected from the local
artist known as Neiliyo, I would probably use some
combination of the words dancey and crazy. However,
this doesn't really fit either of those descriptions.
You can still dance to it, but it'll probably be more of a
soft grind since this is surprisingly slinky. Be safe.
Have fun with it. Also, watch out, because I think
Neiliyo is on his way. Not sure when the new LP is
out, so stay tuned for more info.
:MIA
- Haters:
MIA has recently been pissing people off as a way to not
only make herself laugh, but to promote the hell out of her
upcoming album. It makes sense, I suppose, since there
is no such thing as bad press. But it also seems to be
distracting everyone from actually talking about how wildly
different each new song from Maya (I refuse to type
it out the other way) has been so far. We've gotten
punk rock, an 80s-esque dance tune and now an experimental
piece of hip hop. Weird. But pretty good.
The LP is due June 29.
:The
Long Tangles - Dry Room:
Not sure if you remember, but a while back my pals Earl and
Courtney were in a local band called The Heirs. Then
they got busy with life. And stuff. Now, they
have have a new project that's just the two of them and is
called The Long Tangles. A Mates Of State comparison
would admittedly be too easy here (they're married, this is
a catchy pop tune), but I think that's the vibe you're
probably going to pick up anyway. The Blueprints
And Maps EP should be available now.
