Today's Quick Mention:  There's a couple of buzz bands that I recommend you run out and catch tonight at Emo's.  One is Maps And Atlases and the other is Cults.  Both different.  Both good.  Both on the same bill.  Go and have a good time.

Sorry for no podcast this weekend.  With the wife's roller derby bout and a bunch of family in town, the weekend was over before I knew it.  Maybe it's time to limit the podcast to special occasions only?  I've been thinking that five-song posts on Mondays and Fridays would allow me to share the same amount of stuff, but only without the added duty of putting together a podcast on Saturday.  I could even do a quick "Album Of The Week" mini-column sometime during the weekend.  Yes?  No?  Think it over and give me an opinion while you check out today's EP.  Enjoy.

:Lyrics Born - Lies X 3:  I'm not entirely sure why I like this song.  The lyrics are kind of silly, the synths are borderline cheesy and there's nothing that makes me think I'll even want to listen to it in a month's time.  Still, for now, in this ever fleeting moment, it's a guilty pleasure and I'm rather attached to the level of confidence that's spewing out of it.  The guy is just totally feeling it.  As U Were is due October 26th via Decon Records.

:Frontier Ruckus - Nerves Of The Nightmind:  Unfortunately, I never got around to checking out all of this folk act's debut full length (I really liked the song Orion Town: Part 2), so I'm not entirely sure if they've changed much or made any particular jump in quality.  I can, however, say the follow-up at least repeats the process of having a lead single that I really like.  Deadmalls And Nightfalls just came out last week on Ramseur Records.

:Wolf People - Tiny Circle:  "Recorded in a converted chicken barn."  Every now and again I really do love press releases and the ridiculous things they mention.  Because, I mean, why does that factoid matter!?  Anyhow, I'm digging this UK-based band, and I think their upcoming album is going to be the one that finally inspires me to get super high and dance around a fire.  Steeple is due October 12 on JagJaguwar.

:Evan Voytas - I Took A Trip On A Plane:  I've received a variety of tracks from Evan in the past, but it wasn't until this dreamy little number came along that his style really clicked with me.  Or, it's entirely possible that I just really like the simplicity of this song.  In any case, I'm open to hearing more, which might happen whenever his debut full length finds its way to store shelves.

:Deerhunter - Revival:  Most of you will probably shake your head in a disapproving fashion, but I've always been more partial to Bradford Cox as Atlas Sound than as a part of Deerhunter.  So, unlike the rest of the world, I don't look to the latter's new releases with a crazed look in my eye.  Until now.  There's just no denying that this is a stellar pop song.  4AD will release Halcyon Dreams on September 28.
