While the guy I split Wednesdays with, Dan, spent his week in the glorious, foreign land of Canada, I’m spending my time in the glorious, foreign land of south Texas.  The southernmost tip of our fair state is so much like Mexico, you have to pass a Border Patrol station on your way back up north.

Honestly, as far as I’m concerned, I’m in Mexico, but my time here in the land of margaritas and sunshine is not soundtracked by the tunes of mariachis.  No, no - streaming into my ears as I lounge about is Telekinesis, an earnest indie rock outfit worn by one man, and if my soundtrack is to be believed I, I, I went to Tokyo.  Though it tours for its patron, Merge Records, as a quartet, Telekinesis, in it’s most basic form, is Michael Benjamin Lerner.  Crafting pop of an insanely catchy matter, Lerner is a balladeer of Seattle, and with a simplicity in melody and arrangement, Lerner’s creations under Telekinesis prove to be one hell of an ear hook.  Lerner may sing, "I try to keep up, but I know I’m failing" throughout Tokyo, but when it comes to his peers, I sense many of them choking in his dust cloud as he powers on through his straightforward, sublime tunage.  It’s old school powerpop, and I love every bit of it.

When he’s not sleeping or being lazy, Brad writes and creates for Both Sides of the Mouth.  If you’d like to reach him regarding his writings here on Side One: Track One, feel free to contact him here.
