Time for your weekly notable news update!  Below you'll find a slew of sentences meant to provide a brief glimpse of what's been going on over the past week in movieland.  If something leaves you desperate for more info then my advice is to do a little extra research on one or all of the following fantastic sites:  Latino Review, Dark Horizons, Ain't It Cool News, CHUD and/or JoBlo.  Now, read on!

Movie News Rundown

The very popular Raven short has reportedly been setup at Universal.  Mark Whalberg will star in and produce the big screen version.

Brian Cox and Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter) have signed on to appear in Rise Of The Apes.

Ben Affleck's The Town has a trailer.  I like the look of it.

The next Fast And Furious movie has made a few casting moves.  Dwayne Johnson, Ludacris, Matt Schulze (from the series' first entry), Joaquim de Almeida (Desperado) and Elsa Pataky will all have roles.

The producers for Arrested Development have once again sworn that a movie is still in the works.  They just need a few important things ... like a script and an actual production date.

Freida Pinto is back!  Check out the Miral trailer.

Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) will direct and pen the adaptation of The Politician, which follows the scandal that enveloped John Edwards in his 1998 political campaign.

Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone) has signed on to play Mystique in X-Men: First Class.

There's a rumor floating around that Mark Ruffalo may play Bruce Banner/Hulk in the Avengers.

Oh man.  The trailer for The Social Network makes it look seriously good.

Magnolia Pictures has picked up the rights to I'm Still Here.  If you remember, that's the Casey Affleck-directed documentary about Joaquin Phoenix going from actor to hip hop musician.

And the most indie trailer of the year award goes to ... Howl.

Haley Joel Osment is making his return to the big screen with Sex Ed.  The movie is said to follow a teacher (who is also a virgin) that is forced to teach sexual education.  Hilarity ensues.  Probably.

Amanda Seyfried has signed on to star in Im.mortal.  Terrible title, yes, but the plot sounds OK.  It's set in a futuristic world where time is the currency, so rich people are immortal and everyone else is just trying to say alive.

Word has it that Amy Adams (Sunshine Cleaning) is rumored to be playing Janis Joplin in Fernando Meirelles' (City Of God) biopic on the famous singer.

Biutiful looks rather bizarre.  See the trailer here.

Nicolas Cage will star in Ghost Rider 2.  The script was written by David Goyer (The Dark Knight).

Brett Rather is said to be trying to put together a movie based on Hercules.

Supposedly, JJ Abrams, James Mangold, Ryan Murphy and Rob Marshall have all expressed interest in adapting Wicked into a movie.

Zach Galifianakis is in everything now.  See the trailer for Due Date here and the one for It's Kind Of A Funny Story here.

Matt Walsh will direct High Road, which follows a weed dealer and a teenager on the run after a deal goes bad.

Roman Polanski will direct Gods Of Carnage.  The movie revolves around two sets of parents that are brought together by a fight between their children.

Centurion could be solid.  Here's the trailer.

Marvel has confirmed that Captain America and Thor will both be converted to 3D.  This is awful news.

I Melt With You will reportedly star Thomas Jane and Jeremy Piven.  The movie follows the interconnecting lives of four men.

Tom Cruise has reportedly been confirmed for Mission Impossible 4.  Some speculated that the somewhat lukewarm reception of Knight And Day would make Paramount go in a different direction.

The M.Night-produced Devil now has a trailer.  Who knows what to think anymore about anything that guy is involved with.

A remake of Oh! God has been pitched to Warner Bros.  This version is said to feature Betty White as God and Paul Rudd as the main mortal.
