I first heard of Yellow Fever (the band not the Asian women fetish) while reading Carrie Brownstein’s very awesome NPR Monitor Mix blog.  Usually, I make note of whatever it she's posting about, but when it's a small band (and one from Austin) that's garnered her endorsement then I pay even more attention.

Yellow Fever, which consists of Jennifer Moore on guitar and Adam Jones on drums, stray away from anything too complex, but that's not a big deal at all since their songs are catchy and instantly pleasing ... especially if you’re like me and enjoy girl group pop that’s a little fuzzed out.

The band’s self-titled debut was released back in December on Wild World Records, a label run by The Vivian Girls.  The record is essentially lo-fi/minimalist rock, but there’s a range of influences displayed throughout.  Each tune is garage-y but you’ll also hear elements of twee, surf rock, and no wave.  None of that really matters though - you only need to know that they make great pop songs.

Seeing Yellow Fever in concert has been on my "To Do" list for quite some time, and I'll finally make it happen this Friday when band plays Emo’s with Chain And The Gang (featuring the inimitable Ian Svenonius) and The Strange Boys.  So come on down, join me, and let's experience the power of Yellow Fever together.  I may even buy you a beer.  If you're nice.
