Today's Quick Mention: Yesterday I got
word that both School Of Seven Bells and Black
Mountain will have new albums this year. The
former on July 13 and the latter at some point
soon. Awesome. It doesn't get much
better than those two in their respective genres.
I initially went to Pitchfork yesterday to see if
they apologized for letting MIA post incoherent
rambles all over their Twitter account, but there
was nothing and I ended up (thankfully) being
distracted by a track from The Samps. The act
features Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti's guitar
player, Cole. M. Greif-Neil, and Mexican Summer will
release their self titled EP in May. Should be
good. Enjoy.
:The
Samps - FXNC:
While this song is so hipster it almost pains my soul to
mention it, I do think it's a highly entertaining piece of
instrumental joy. I love the plodding and
ominous feel of the arrangement, and I also think Pitchfork had it right when
they said it sounded like something you'd find in a 16-bit
Sega game. Definitely not for everyone, but if you
give it a chance you might find yourself wishing the two
minutes and 17 second runtime didn't come and go so quickly,
especially with the mini-climax that jumps up at the end.
