Today's Quick Mention:  Dan had to take care of something today, so his locally-themed column is going to have to wait until tomorrow.  I think you'll be fine, but if you believe otherwise then I recommend getting something from these parts via the recent comp put together by Austin Sound.

The National.  A mortal art enemy if I've ever had one.  Everyone I know finds them enthralling to no end.  Me?  Aside from a few stellar tracks (including today's), I think they're as boring as it gets.  I just don't get them, and I'm not sure the new LP will make me change my mind.  However, as with every release from the band, I'll give it a shot.  4AD will put out High Violet on May 10.  Enjoy.

:The National - Afraid Of Everyone:  I tend to prefer it when Matt Berninger scales back that amazingly deep voice of his in favor of letting the band have a more complete sound, and this song is a good example of that.  He doesn't overwhelm, the music is wonderfully crafted with numerous little details and layers and there is even a bit of a hook to it.  If only I could have an entire album of this!
