Today's Quick Mention: I really wish I
didn't have a ton of work-related events to tend to
this weekend. Otherwise I'd totally hit up
Camera Obscura at Emo's tonight, Yeasayer at La Zona
Rosa tomorrow and Harlem at Waterloo Records on
Sunday. Oh well. Go and have fun for me.
I know I've excitedly covered them in the past, but
I have to admit that even after a full length debut
and a remix EP I've yet to completely fall in love
with Fol Chen. I like them. A
lot. The singles are great. But that's
about where I draw the line of affection.
Maybe Part II: The Next December will alter
my opinion when it's put out by Asthmatic Kitty
Records on July 6. Enjoy.

Chen - In Ruins:
Part of my problem with Fol Chen is that on occasion they
have a weird divide in their approach to things. For
instance, this track. If you just listen to the music
you get a weird, stuttered and playfully crafted soundscape
that's worth dancing to. The vocals and lyrics,
however, are completely different. I feel as though I
should be hanging out in a lounge chair somewhere while I
listen. On the bright side, them doing said style
doesn't really bother me here. Perhaps they're getting
better at it?
