Today's Quick Mention: It would appear that Harlem Shakes have
decided to call it quits. I didn't think their most recent record was
amazing or anything, but it was solid and had some really nice tracks on it.
Anyone know the reason for the split?
It's been a while since I've put together an EP, so I figured that was the
best way to start the week. Enjoy.

Of The Birds - Spanish Accusations:
If you've been visiting SOTO often and diligently
downloading over the last few months then you may remember
this act, which is centered around the proprietor of
Abandoned Love Records, Jon Rooney. At the time he had
a free EP titled Every Rival, and now he has
another titled Dear Furies. I
think it's him at his most playful, so definitely give it a
shot if you're in the mood for some quirky pop today.

Systym - Ghost Clock:
I feel as though I should already be aware of this duo (half
of which lives here in Austin), but it wasn't until this
track landed in my inbox that I knew they existed.
Their new album is titled Shutter Release, and
judging by the intricate and wonderfully crafted arrangement
put forth here, it just might be one of the year's best.
We shall see when Mush releases it on November 3.

Cab For Cutie - Meet Me At The Equinox:
When I first heard that these former indie darlings (now
major label guilty pleasure) would have a song on the
Twilight: New Moon soundtrack, I thought it was a rather
trendy move, even for them. And the result? A
big piece of generic mainstream rock. Honestly, only
expect to dig it if (like me) you tend to have a soft spot
for the tolerable radio ready tunes of the world.

- God Bones:
This is a song that that I've been meaning to share for
awhile now, but I just haven't been able to get over how
when I listen to it I immediately picture a bunch of bearded
hipsters sitting around and drinking coffee. It's
weird. Anyhow, you can find this inspired folk number
on the band's self titled EP that was just released (on
vinyl and digitally) on Paper Brigade.

- Locked In The Basement:
I thought that I had a pretty good handle on this Swedish
group, but here they are with an unexpected six minutes of
music that's not just beautiful, but incredibly warm.
You need headphones for this. Also, it would probably
be a good idea to head down to your local record store and
demand that they get you a copy of Trilogi (it's a
series of EPs) when Kora Records puts it out on November 17.
