Today's Quick Mention: Now that I've had a little time to think
about the Kanye West VMA fiasco I'd like to say that I'm firmly on his side.
I mean, he was just standing up for his friend and the great injustice that
her music video was being dealt. If only we all knew people who
drank cared that much.
Last year's Land Of Talk record didn't have the same impact on me that their
debut did, but nonetheless it made my year-end list and I've been looking
forward to the full length follow-up. Unfortunately, there's no word
on that yet, but there is the Fun And Laughter EP. Guess it'll
do for now. Look for it on the always stellar Saddle Creek on October
20. Enjoy.

Of Talk - May You Never:
One of the things that took a little while for me to
appreciate about the band's sophomore effort was how they
had moved away from simplistic indie rock to a more layered
sound. Well, they certainly seem to be heading even
further in that direction, but I think they've improved, so
now it's working brilliantly. Or it's just the
progress I expected from a great act. Either way, the
Fun And Laughter EP may not be the big official
follow-up that I'm looking for, but if it's got at least one
or two other atmospheric gems like this then I'll be more
than satisfied.
