Today's Quick Mention: I got destroyed in fantasy football this
weekend
(unless Phillip Rivers throws 12 TDs tonight),
but my weekly game picks fared much better. I should end up 12-4 as
long as the Pats and Chargers win tonight.
Aside from St. Vincent's Actor, the follow-up that I was most
anticipating in 2009 was from Thao Nguyen And The Get Down Stay Down.
Last year, as you may recall, the trio put out my favorite album, and with
the good material I've heard live, the snazzy first single below and the
genuine excitement about the LP that the band has had whenever we've talked,
I think it's safe to say it'll be great. Know Better, Learn Faster
is out October 13 on Kill Rock Stars. Enjoy.

Nguyen And Get Down Stay Down - Know Better, Learn Faster:
Probably because of how attached I am to We Brave Bee
Stings And All, I downloaded this with the assumption
that the first new track would sound like something from
that album. Well, it does. Sort of. It's
still acoustic driven pop, but it also has full-on strings
and an underlying bit of twang, and I think that those two
elements actually make for a pretty different listen.
So, instead of turning this up and letting it fill the room,
I say grab a pair of headphones.
