I almost forget
how to write a column about music, that's how much of a
shmuck I've been over the course of the last two, three
months of not in any way fulfilling my responsibilities as
author of The Good, The Bad, and The Misunderstood.
I would say this is an apology, but it's not. I'm more
excited as I've listened to countless new albums in the last
two, or three months and have nothing but the good, the
good, and the good to thrust upon you, eager listeners of
music.
So lets get to it. Forgive my absence. It hurt me too.
As always, thanks for reading.
Who/What:
The
Sandwitches - Back To The Sea
Where Did I Find
It: San
Francisco, California, bastion of all things amazing.
Why Do I Like It:
I would say it's because this is an entire album of cheeky,
fuzzy garage-sounding modern day girl group pop, but I'd be
wrong. This is a diverse album of excellently performed
albums that spans everything from country to American gothic
to the above mentioned fuzzy girl pop. It's at times
energizing, at times haunting, and at all times entirely
enjoyable. This one might be a contender for my end of list.

Atlas Sound - Doctor (Five Discs Cover)
Where Did I Find
It:
Gorilla v.
Bear, you know it, you love it, just admit it
Why Do I Like It:
Atlas
Sound skirts the edge of 60s pop, the distant, dark, creepy
edge of 60s pop. Don't disagree, Bradford Cox loves himself
some 60s pop, and in the far-off corners of his music, you
can hear it's up-jumpity influence. And that's why I like
this track Doctor, it discards the weirdness and just head
first dives in to a gritty, lo-fi doo-wop track. It makes my
heart, cold and rock-like as it is, pulse with a gentle bit
of love.

King
Khan & The BBQ Show - I'll Be Loving You
Where Did I Find
It:
I stalk these fellows, it's a problem and a reality.
Why Do I Like It:
King
Khan & The BBQ Show are included in my list of favorite
musicians currently performing. See them live, listen to
them on record, or just remember their tunes in your
throbbing brain matter and you'll see why. This is a genre
flipped and turned all the while paying impressive,
knowledgeable homage to what came before. Invisible Girl
isn't my favorite of their releases, but I'll Be Loving You
bounces with the same fervor of the best tracks from their
last album. I'm a little sad this album is out, because now
I have to wait another year or so for another new one.

Who/What:
Budo - Walk Away
Where Did I Find
It:
Full
disclosure, Budo is a great friend of mine, and this, his
first album, was given to me directly by him
Why Do I Like It:
I've been a Budo fan for years. We've lived together, smoked
endless cigs together, talked about the state of hip-hop
together, and vandalized a single bulldozer together. I
couldn't be happier that his new album is as good as
everything else he's created. The man's prolific, so give
it a year and I imagine this burgeoning producer will be a
household name.
