Today's Quick Mention:  Don't forget that this is the last post until at least Monday (there's a small chance that the site won't be back until the mid-point of next week, but let's hope I get settled faster than that).  Have fun doing whatever it is that you'll be doing.

And now for one last EP.  Enjoy.

:Yacht - Psychic City:   In all the times that I've listened to the pure danceable joy of See A Penny (Pick It Up) or seen this duo lay it down live I've never once imagined them doing something as breezy and relaxing as this. I mean, it doesn't even force you to move your body!  Crazy, right?  In any case, I like it and I think that not repeating the stuff from the last LP was probably a good idea.  The act's new full length is titled See Mystery Lights and it will be on store shelves July 28.

:Banjo Or Freakout - Upside Down:  This is a somewhat strange song.  On one hand I know that it isn't ever going to climax and reach that point of straight up awesomeness that it hints at, but it also happen to be one of the better atmospheric efforts that I've had the pleasure of hearing lately, so be sure to pull out the headphones for this.  I think you can get this song on vinyl now, but I'm not sure if or when it will make an appearance on an official full length.

:Zechs Marquise - Chase Scene-:  The Mars Volta have been a favorite of mine since they first rolled out the Tremulant EP, but some of the side projects and such that have spawned out of the group have tended to be a little too weird for me.  This band, which is actually the Rodriguez-Lopez brothers Marcel (he's the one in TMV) and Marfred, is just right.  Probably because they seem to know how keep things reasonable, even in the realm of psychedelic funk.  Our Delicate Stranded Nightmare is due in August.

:Jay Reatard - It Ain't Gonna Save Me:  "All is lost/There is no hope for me"  Despite having released a ton of stuff over the last year, I have to admit that I'm pretty excited about this guy's upcoming debut for Matador.  He, as shown by this gem, not only seems to have an unlimited amount of spunk, but the ability to make sure that you do too.  Expect to jump spastically.  Watch Me Fall will be out in the too far away time of August.

:Free Energy - Dream City:  If you're browsing this EP with the hope of finding at least one song that your dad might like then this and all of its vintage pop rock ways is certainly it.  Actually, that's a bit too harsh, especially when I consider that I don't see how anyone couldn't like this.  So, take it the streets, my friends, and blare it loudly until you have amassed a big enough crowd to sing-a-long with you.  Look for Stuck On Nothing later this year.
