Today's
Quick Mention: First of all, sorry for the
impromptu holiday break that I put the site on over the long
weekend. I really needed some time to get my head on
straight before my move later this week (speaking of such
things, if you're a label/PR person then please take note of
my new address in the contact section). Secondly,
posting is going to be strange for a bit. There will
be an EP today, one tomorrow and another on Thursday before
I put the site on a three-day mini break. Hopefully,
then I'll be all settled in at the new place and things can
return to normal on June 1.
Let's get on with it.
Enjoy.
:The
Radical Sons - I'm So Sick Of The 21st Century:
"I'm feeling nostalgia for things I've never known"
It's strange to me that such a young group of guys (their
press release says they're barely legal) would so willingly
slog the modern world in favor of anything and everything
from the 60s, but I'm with them as long as they keep
churning out fine pieces of garage rock like this.
Expect to see their Throwing Knives EP on Secretly
Canadian's St. Ives imprint towards the end of June.

Won't Listen - Into The Hillside:
Just the other day I randomly wondered where CWL's Jason
Drake had wandered off to, and now I know. He's been
in the studio crafting an instrumental full length.
Admittedly, I'd rather have a proper follow-up to last
year's Small-Time Machine EP, but since he's gotten
off to a good start with this headphone-worthy title track
I'm up for seeing what else he's got. The record will
be out June 16.

Plenti - Fun That We Have:
While I absolutely adore Turn On The Bright Lights, I
don't necessarily care about either of Interpol's last two
efforts. Actually, I wasn't too concerned about this
solo thing until I forced myself to listen to it and
discovered that somewhere along the way Julian got inspired
and/or loosened up. Is he actually having fun? I
have no idea. I'm honestly just happy that he finally
seems cool with not making Slow Hands over and over
again. Julian Plenty Is...Skyscraper is due
August 4 on Matador.
:The
Do - Tammie:
This duo (made up of Olivia Merilahti and Dan Levy) actually
scored a few films and a ballet before deciding to extend
their partnership to that of an album that they could call
their own. So, while this is off of what's essentially
their debut, it makes for a rather comfortable and
interesting listen. Here's hoping the rest of A
Mouthful is full of the same. It'll hit store
shelves on July 14.
:New
Roman Times - Smoke In Your Disguise:
The last time that I heard anything from this Austin-based
band I was working in college radio, so it's been a while.
Fortunately, they still have some very nice boy/girl vocals
and, I suppose this is most important part, they haven't
forgotten how to write engaging pop songs. Granada
Records will release On The Sleeve in the far away
time of July. Make a note!
