Not much pre-movie thrashing this week. There's been a good
deal of controversy/opinion bandied about over this new
Terminator flick and I'm curious as anyone to see it for
myself on a big beautiful silver screen.
Lets talk about some movies. As always, thanks for
reading.
Hitting Theaters This Weekend:
TERMINATOR SALVATION
Director:
McG
Cast:
Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin
Summary:
This is the Terminator movie we've always wanted, the
story of the flying robot planes and the red-eyed death
dealing silver 'bots. This is John Connors and everything
that entails.
Thoughts:
I was really really excited about this movie. McG seemed to
be doing everything right, the trailers seemed impressively
dour, Linda Hamilton was doing a voiceover (and here I
thought she was dead), Christian Bale looked like the
bad-ass he might be and on and on. But now, the movies hit
the preview screenings and everyone's all up in arms because
supposedly it sucks. I've read only negative reviews of the
film so far, even our own Johnny Boy Laird wasn't pleased
with the film, and I'm a little surprised and a little sad.
The Terminator franchise has been a favorite of mine
for a while (c'mon jerks, some of you liked T:3) and
it's disheartening to think that after all of this amazing
build-up the movie is a huge stupid flop.
Thanks a lot Hollywood, another of my childhood favorites
seemingly shot up with turd.

33%
NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: BATTLE OF THE SMITHSONIAN
Director:
Shawn Levy
Cast:
Stiller, Jonah Hill, Owen Wilson, everyone else looking for
a quick paycheck
Summary:
Ben Stiller's bumbling security guard from the first film
has to sneak in to the Smithsonian to save a couple bumbling
characters also from the first movie.
Thoughts:
Shawn Levy is a hack, that much is obvious. Yet for
whatever reason this film doesn't look all that bad to me.
It's a bunch of pretty top-rate comedians (not looking at
you Robin Williams) coming together for a big, silly, stupid
semi-action flick ... with a giant crazy skeleton monster.
I'm not paying to see this, probably ever, but if you
brought a child or a developmentally challenged adult to
this film, well, I wouldn't judge you for it.
Summary:
Sigh, a dance movie but you know, a "funny" one.
Thoughts:
What in the hell happened to the Wayans? I used to beg my
parents to let me watch In Living Color. And now
this family of comedians are pumping films out about
midgets, black people turned white, and a satirical dance
comedy. I have nothing to say, my mouth's too full of bile.
Rotten Tomatoes Score:
40%
LIMITED FLICK:
THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE
Director:
Steven Soderbergh
Cast:
Sasha Grey
Summary:
5 days in the life of a high-class call girl.
Thoughts:
I saw Soderbergh's last foray in to the digital realm while
high on hash and to be quite honest thought it was an
animated film. That said, this movie is getting rave
reviews from the old blogosphere, and I'm always interested
in films starring porn stars ...
Rotten Tomatoes Score:
70%
Final Thoughts:
Terminator Salvation
seems to be the winner for the week, but I'm going to attend
almost out of a morbid fascination with watching my favorite
franchises beaten to death by the Hollywood corporate
machine.
