I’ve been preparing to finally move to
San Francisco
and not only am I wracked with a terrible urge for
procrastination, but I’ve never done anything like this
before. For the last fourteen days my house has been
cluttered with boxes, I’ve been sleeping on a couch, and my
brain as been split between working, writing, and well,
moving.
Thus, I’m writing this post in the backseat of my brother’s
car, crammed against a wall of boxes and linens well on my
way to my new home.
The boring details of my life aside, there's still plenty of
music to report back on.
As always, thanks for reading.
THE GOOD
Who/What:
Sleepy Sun - Sleepy Son
Where'd I Find It:
On a co-workers desk. When I find things on co-workers desk
I usually steal them, that’s just how I am.
Why
Do I Like It:
Over the course of my time at Light In The Attic, I’ve been
plied with a healthy dose of psych-rock, and it has slowly
worked its way in to the crevices of my brain. Anything
that’s even hinted at as being a part of this at times wild
genre gets put on my "listen to list". Sleepy Sun,
inhabitants of my new SF home, hit the fucking psych-rock
nail squarely on the head. The combination of male/female
vocals and the huge vacillations between the soft moments
and the squelch heavy guitar solos plasters a huge
shit-eater on my face every time. This is modern psych-rock
at its best and you’ll be want to listen as these fellows
and ladies are going to be getting big and quick.

THE BAD
Who/What:
Vetiver - On The Other Side
Why
Do I Like It:
I think I just expected something different from this band.
I thought it was going to have the warm crackle of folk
music of an older age, but upon several listens it just
sounds, well, completely forgettable. I’m sure I’m in the
minority as this previously beloved artist was recently
picked up by Sub Pop and I’ve seen the Vetiver moniker
glowingly referred to on many a blog, but count me out on
this one, it does nothing for me.

- On The Other Side:
THE MISUNDERSTOOD
Who/What:
Ducktails - Beach Point Pleasant
Why
Everyone Should Be Listening To It:
This might be the only thing from New Jersey I’ve ever
really liked all that much (sorry Springsteen sycophants, I
care not for him). It’s low-key and evokes a gentle day
spent in the warming hands of the sun, fading in and out of
sleep. It sounds like Pitchfork favorite El Guincho on
Ambien, and you know what? I like El Guincho and I like
Ambien, so, perfect combination.
