Today's
Quick Mention: Actually, there's a few things to
mention. The first is that I'm now on
Twitter. Sign up to follow me
immediately, as there will be a nice bit of important info
pertaining to it next week. Secondly, Austin Sound has
put up their yearly
compilation. It, like the day
party they're having, is beyond awesome.
And lastly, we won second place at trivia last night (our
team name was Britney's Beef Curtains: Volume 9).
Deep breath. Now check out this sweet EP.
Enjoy.

And The Cookies - Little Dream:
I didn't know it (even in the slightest bit), but this act
has been putting out records since the late-90s. Even
better, I've actually rambled about them before! Oops.
In any case - even though there's only one original member
left - I suppose it explains why this gem doesn't just play
like another catchy little pop tune, there's a bit of
refinement and experience in how its crafted. Feel
free to recommend a previous effort, or just wait patiently
for the May 12 release of Modern Silence.
:The
Dead Weather - Hang You From The Heavens:
With two super successful bands to his name already, Jack
White could probably announce that he's entering the world
of bedroom electronica and people would at least give it a
shot. So, is it surprising that the world is highly
interested in him manning the drum kit for this group, which
features the Kills Alison Mosshart on vocals? Of
course not! I will say this though, this is much
heavier and raw than I was expecting. I hope we get
more soon. By the way, nothing official is available
now.
:Blue
Rabbit - Sleep:
It's sort of weird, but when I look at this band's press
release I see everything that any self respecting indie
artist would be expected to have. There's seven
members, each of which either sing or play instruments like
the cello, harp or keys, they have all sorts of wonderful
press quotes and they've played with plenty of great bands.
It just doesn't get more picture perfect than that! On
a serious note, this is a neat track with odd pop
sensibilities and plenty to keep you coming back. I
believe the Separate EP is available now.

Claws - Pemporer:
The last track that I posted from this local group was from
their raucous self titled full length that was released last
year. Since then, admittedly, they sort of slipped to
the back of my mind, but this beach-worthy track has brought
them back to the forefront in a very abrupt fashion.
You should expect to love it. As I noted, they have an
effort out now, which is definitely worth checking out, but
if you only like new things then hit up iTunes for the
Healer EP.
:Hungry
Villagers - Tree Full Of Ghosts:
I've probably listened to this song a solid six or seven
times over the last week or so, but it wasn't until last
night that I decided I actually liked it. You
definitely won't find anything you haven't heard a zillion
times, but it has a particular quality about it that just
sticks with you. Maybe its the lyrics? Anyway,
their press release didn't exactly say when they'll have an
album out, but it did mention that you can get this single
on vinyl starting next week. Good stuff.
