Today's Quick Mention:
For those of you that couldn't make it, let it be known that Dill Dozer (aka the wife)
gave it her all in a nice TXRD debut last
night, but her Rhinestone Cowgirl's came up just short of a win over the Hellcats.
Still, feel free to
declare her as the best derby girl ever. Or something.
There are plenty of records from 2007 that I revisit on regular basis, but
the one that still shines as brightly as it did then is St Vincent's
Marry Me. So, it's fairly easy to understand why Annie Clark's
sophomore effort, Actor, is firmly planted at the very top of my most
anticipated releases list. Look for the full length on 4AD
at the beginning of May. Enjoy.
:St
Vincent - The Strangers:
Over the weekend I was talking with a friend of mine about
memorable records from the last decade or so, and as we
named off efforts from various artists I realized that
Annie's was definitely the most weird. She doesn't
necessarily do loud or quiet, instead it's a whimsical
mixture of that golden voice of hers, lush arrangements and
an almost mischievous penchant for distortion. This
gem is more of that, and it thrills me to no end since she
seems to have gotten better at it. I need that
album now.
