Alright, I'm in SF right now, and people are waiting on me, so I'm going to
cut the idle chitter-chatter and just jump to the music.
It's a good week though, so get your speakers cranked.
THE GOOD
Who/What:
The Strange Boys - The Girls Taught Me a Dance
Where'd I Find It:
Raven Sings The Blues
Why
Do I Like It:
This is one of the greatest little diddies I've heard in a
long while. These youngsters from Austin sound like Bob
Dylan stretched like laffy taffy and locked in a basement
with a bucketful of grit and a bottle full of grungy R&B.
Pop this in the jukebox, turn the lights down a little bit
low, and you might just be at the spike-punched 1960s prom
you've always dreamed.

Who/What:
Eddy Current Suppression Ring - Which Way To Go
Where'd I Find It:I
Rock Cleveland
Why
Do I Like It:
I don't know when it happened, and I don't know why, but I
am obsessed with grungy, lo-fi garage rock and I can't get
enough of it. Eddy Current Suppression Ring is a band out
of Melbourne that satisfies my needs with pounding guitars,
straight and simple. Eddy Current himself has the type of
throwback voice pulled straight out of a badly lit film
about the 1960s and it makes my hair stand on end. I just
want to take my shirt off and roll around in this shit, I
can not get enough of it.

Current Suppression Ring - Which Way To Go:
Who/What:
Crystal Antlers - Andrew
Where'd I Find It:
Pitchfork Media/Right Here At SOTO
Why
Do I Like It:
I've been trying to find a reason to talk about Crystal
Antlers since I came late to the party on their self-titled
EP several weeks ago. The EP is a hard-charging blast of
electrified psych-rock that left my hair wilted and smoking
in several places. This track, off their new slightly
endangered full length, is a far more toned down affair,
more, ahem, garage-y, than just face-melting, but it is
still an absolute blast of a song. I'm already pegging
these guys as one of my favorite bands of the year, and holy
shit, it's only March.

Antlers - Andrew:
THE BAD
I'm in SF, it's warm and sunny and I might've just got a job
down here, I'm barely cognizant of what's bad right now.
Sorry Negative Nancies, find a different place to suck the
life out of.
THE MISUNDERSTOOD
Who/What:
TIntelligence - Moon Beams
Why
Everyone Should Be Listening To It:
These guys popped up on everybody's radar at the end of 2007
with their album Deuteronomy and then just as quickly
faded away. But seriously, I picked this album up last week
and it's post-punk at its most entertaining. This song runs
the gamut from spacey bloops and beeps to thundering guitars
and if you can't find something to like in it, you might
want to turn the volume down on your Dell and go find some
Barry Manilow to enjoy. You do know he's touring, right?
