While out with some friends of mine a few days ago we got into a heated discussion about summer blockbusters.  My argument was that if the folks out in Hollywood would go the extra mile to make sure they're going to churn out a quality effort instead of something like the overly stupid, but pretty Transformers (the main flick that kept popping up) then everyone would profit.  We'd get great movies and they'd get their money, especially on the repeat viewings that would surely happen.  Easy to understand, right?  Well, I thought so, but these friends of mine seem to think that it's OK if you riddle a movie with poor casting, low-brow humor and a silly plot - "it's the only way they'll make money, because these things are just supposed to be popcorn fun".  Personally, I think that's stupid, and I find it disappointing that anyone would want to go into a movie only hoping that it's nice to look at.  What do you guys think?

Onto the news!  Read on.

Rumor has it that Sony and Paramount may be on the verge of merging.
