Today's
Quick Mention: Tonight at the Mohawk St. Vincent
and Pattern Is Movement are playing. You have to be
there. No excuses. Both acts will probably
combine to make some sort of incredible Voltron-esque
creature of live music awesomeness, and you don't want to
say you missed out to watch TV or some crap. Trust me.
Or, if (and only if) you're broke, at least follow my
commentary via
Twitter.
I seem to have lost my voice, which means there's an off-chance that
there will not be a podcast tomorrow. So, just in
case, here's an EP to help with the weekend.
Enjoy.
:Electric
Black - Our Love Is Smoking:
"We make love on cinder blocks/Our love is smoking hot"
I've listened to this a large handful of times and have yet
to be able to remove half smirk, half bewildered look from
face, as it's just so damn unbelievably ridiculous.
It's not just the lyrics though, it's the weird gypsy-like
mix of country, blues and rock swagger that fills the music,
and that's before you even consider the raspy vocals.
Crazy, but also a blast. Electric Black's self titled
full length is out now on Mad Apple.
:Pattern
Is Movement - Right Away:
In noticing that I had somehow managed to not mention this
band before and thinking that perhaps you were unaware of
them, I decided that it would probably be a good idea to
present a track. This one, which is beautifully
arranged, is probably my favorite by them, so grab some
headphones and zone out for a few minutes. And then,
as suggested, work on getting some tickets to see the duo
play tonight with St. Vincent. All Together can
be yours now, if you want.
:Summer
Cats - Hey You, It's Me (Oh My):
Just the other day I was riding around and listening to the
radio (before it was so kindly removed from my vehicle
without permission) and there was a quick string of jangly
pop rock tunes from the late 90s that filled me with
nostalgia. Now, I'm not saying I'd love to see
everyone get back to giving that sound a go, but I wouldn't
mind if a nifty effort or two - like this - would continue
to spring up here and there. The recent addition to
the Slumberland roster will release Songs For Tuesdays
on July 14.
:Colette
- Think You Want It:
Normally, I'd stick something this dance pop in this podcast
so that it would be upon you before your "cool" voice
started pleading with you to stop having fun. But not
this time. This is somewhat due to me maybe not being
able to do a podcast tomorrow, but mostly it's because I
trust you trust me enough to at least give it a shot.
Don't worry, if you like it I won't make you tell anyone.
Colette's sophomore effort is titled Push, and I
think it is available now.
:Battlehooch
- Take The L Train:
We started this thing with a crazy track, so we might as
well end it with one as well. Although, this is a
different sort of bizarre - one that isn't necessarily
littered with shock value as much as it is pure creative
randomness. Expect to experience something that is
similar to a rollercoaster, but more exciting since no
matter how many times you take the ride it always feel as if
you've never done it before. Piecechow is
available at this very moment.
