Anyone
else think it's funny that over the last couple of weekends
original films like Up and the Hangover have
ruled the box office, but the the super big-budgeted
remake/reboot efforts (Star Trek being the exception)
like Land Of The Lost and Terminator Salvation
haven't do done so well? When will Hollywood learn
that people enjoy good stories and not just nostalgia?

Might as
well start with some remake/reboot/retread news...
Tony Scott is redoing The Warriors.
It will be set in LA and will deal with gang culture.
Dimension Films has decided to remake Short Circuit.
Things are underway to bring back the original Scream
cast for a new trilogy. Kevin Williamson may direct.
Wallstreet 2 is set to star Javier Bardem and Shia
LeBeouf.
Kurt Wimmer is penning the remake of Total Recall.
Taraji P. Henson has been cast as the mother in the
Karate Kid remake.
There will be a series of Blade Runner prequels
titled Purefold. Supposedly, they'll be around
10 minutes and will be on TV and the web.
Ridley
Scott has said that a prequel to Alien is currently
in development. Carl Rinsch will direct.
Gold Circle Films is working on two sequels to the recently
released Haunting In Connecticut.
Now that Robert Rodriguez has seemingly passed on directing
Barbarella, the studio may be turning to Robert
Luketic (21, Legally Blonde).
As for Rodriguez, he has reportedly contacted Arnold
Schwarzenegger about reprising his character in his
Predators movie.
The upcoming Highlander
remake has gotten a script review. It would that the
sword-only combat aspect as been discarded. Shame.
Antonio Banderas recently said that the upcoming Puss In
Boots origin story is "epic" and lacking any of the pop
culture material from Shrek.
It would appear that Kirsten Dunst will in fact reprise her
role as Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man 4.
Bryan Singer has said that he
might possibly be interested in directing X-Men Origins:
Magneto.
The next Heavy Metal flick is set to feature various
segments from a slew of directors. Confirmed are:
David Fincher, James Cameron, Zach Snyder and Gore Verbinski.
Do you believe all that? What the hell is going
on!?
Time for other stuff, but honestly it isn't that much
better...
Universal is making a Where's Waldo? movie.
Clint Eastwood's Nelson Mandela's film has been titled
Invictus, and it will be in theaters on December 11.
Sony is said to developing a H.R. Pufnstuf flick.
Anne Hathaway will appear along side Tobey Maguire in the
adaptation of the comic Tokyo Suckerpunch.
Speaking of Hathaway, she's also set to star in Love And
Other Drugs - a dramedy about pharmaceutical companies -
with Jake Gyllenhaal.
Moon director Duncan Jones has a new project titled
Escape From The Deep. It's said to follow the
sinking of the USS Tang and how some of its men were able to
swim to the surface.
Jack Nicholson has replaced Bill Murray as Paul Rudd's dad
in James L. Brooks' currently untitled film.
Chris Pine is in talks to star alongside Denzel Washington
in Tony Scott's Unstoppable.
