Today's Quick Mention:  I'm really hoping to do a double feature this weekend with Up and the Hangover - both of which have gotten super reviews.  I'd also maybe like to also see Drag Me To Hell, but I'm not a huge horror fan.  Anyone catch it yet?

The list of bands that I've just given up hope of ever being able to see perform isn't an overly long one, but I have to admit that I'm really thrilled that today I can say I have the chance to make it even smaller.  And who exactly is helping me do that?  Stellastarr*.  They'll be in at the Parish on July 27th in support of their new album Civilized.  I can't wait.  Enjoy.

:Stellastarr* - Freak Out:  Given that it's been almost four year since the band's last album, I was expecting to get something different.  And I did.  Sort of.  They still do a balanced and pretty mix of boy/girl vocals laid over an artsy, pop arrangement, but vocalist Shawn Christensen seems to have reigned himself in and greatly scaled back his "overdone" style.  Honestly, it's a little weird at first (I even wondered if it was someone else singing), but I think it was a good idea.  Listen to this one with the volume way up.
