Today's
Quick Mention: If you're on Facebook (and
honestly, who isn't?) then you can now totally become a fan
of
Side One: Track One. Yes, I realize
that dropping by and reading/listening everyday should be
enough, but I think it's time we take our digital friendship
to the next level. Now click away!
Here's an EP, fans. Enjoy.
:Times
New Viking - No Time, No Hope:
Considering that the super loud noise-pop which seems to be
universally loved these days has become something of an
annoyance to me, I wasn't expecting to particularly like
TNV's new single. But, here we are, and I'm glad to be
sharing it. Why? Because there's a bit of
restraint on the eardrum-shattering volume level that the
genre is known for, and it's a pitch-perfect summer jam.
The band's fourth album, Born Again Revisited will be
out in late September.
:Beat
Radio - Memoir Of A Lightning Bolt:
The last time I heard from Beat Radio they were flaunting a
wonderfully free download of their debut record and sporting
an easy to love pop rock sound. Unfortunately, I can't
say whether or not they'll be adventurous and/or charitable
enough to give away their sophomore effort, but I do know
that their sound hasn't changed much - it's still accessible
as can be. Safe Inside The Sound will be
released sometime next month.
:Kordan
- Fantasy Nation:
It has been a long while since I've gotten anything new from
Twentyseven Records (This Is Ivy League, Pelle Carlberg), so
I'm excited to see that they're still kicking around.
Better yet, I'm even more thrilled that they've signed this
gem of an artist, who has apparently been championed by Cut
Copy and the Presets and carries a rather snazzy
fuzz-enhanced electro-pop sound. You will like this.
Not sure when an actual album will be out, but this song can
be found on an EP Single via the aforementioned label.
:Medeski,
Martin And Wood - Undone:
Why I haven't been constantly mentioning MMW's three-album
project is something I'll probably never figure out, but at
least I'm telling you that this is the first single off the
last part of the trilogy, and so far it's probably my
favorite from the instrumental gurus. Expect to see me
planted firmly at the front of the line when the band
releases the limited-edition Radiolarians box set on
vinyl later in the year (probably right before Christmas).
:Holy
Ghost - I Will Come Back:
I don't pay enough attention to the remix world to even know
whether or not I should believe the suggestion that this
Brookyln duo's foray into doing their own stuff is a big
deal, but I like this song and its nice and synthy 80s
sound, so I'm ready to find a seat on the bandwagon.
Although, if another remix act remixes this remix act, I'm
jumping off. A debut isn't set to be released until
2010, but this track is available in single form.
