Today's Quick Mention: Well, I've tried, but I just don't
understand why Animal Collective's latest LP is deserving of such wildly
high praise from the entire world. Now don't get me wrong, I like it.
I'm just not sure it's what Pitchfork called "a record that no one else
could have made." Feel free to explain.
Helping me wrap up this short week of inaugurations and new music is the
Swedish pop act Loney Dear. I fully expected to find a bunch of pretty
little numbers (like the video below) when their album arrived in the mail,
but it's actually a pop effort that kicks the energy and attitude up a
notch. I think you'll like it. Dear John is out on
Polyvinyl next Tuesday. Enjoy.

Dear - Airport Surroundings:
"You are all
that I want" I may have already mentioned that a large
part of Loney Dear's new disc is a fairly active take on pop
music, but I still think you'll be surprised at how
well some of the songs move. Alternatively, even if
the brisk pace doesn't stand out I'm certain that its 80s
synth-pop sound will win you over in no time. So, in
other words, this one is can't-miss.
