Today's
Quick Mention: Well, what's to be thought of
Tinted Windows? Yesterday the band (or act?), which
features faces from Hanson, Fountains Of Wayne, Smashing
Pumpkins and Cheap Trick, debuted a
video packed with snippets of sugary sweet
pop tunes. Personally, I think I'm still on the
only-curious side of things.
Here's an EP.
Enjoy.

Joe Lewis And The Honeybears - Bitch, I Love You:
I'd expect those of that are local to be familiar with this
act, as he's normally talked about (and can be found
playing) all over the place, but it wouldn't surprise me if
the good word had already spread far and wide. After
all, Joe's got undeniable talent and a wealth of appeal -
you just can't help but find something to like. Look
for this track on 10" vinyl the next time you stop by the
record store.

- I Think I Like You:
Admittedly, this song's overall Apple commercial-worthy
sound (you know, sweet lyrics and even sweeter music) will
probably force some of you to deem it as far too cute.
I, on the other hand, can't get the damn thing out of my
head, and since it's my blog you can just deal with it.
Or whatever, man. Their self titled debut is currently
available on Rostrum Records and iTunes (go figure).
:Sholi
- Tourniquet:
I somehow missed out on previewing this artist last year,
but now that their self titled debut has hit store shelves
I'm willing and ready to let you know that they're good.
Now go and grab your headphones so that this rock band with
the progressive sound can please your ears. Also, be
sure to seek them out on Touch And Go Records (and no, this
isn't a pity post) if you'd like a physical copy of the LP.
:Beware
Of Safety - The Supposed Common:
This is an odd song. It's definitely the kind of
instrumental music that I love - atmospheric, loud and
tightly crafted, but it's also directionless. At no
point do you feel it's building up to anything or trying to
push a particular hook, it just exists and moves along for
almost eight-minutes in that direction. I
really can't imagine what a whole album of this must be
like, but I will say that I'm eager to find out.
Dogs is available now on the Mylene Sheath.
:The
Decks - Skeleton:
One of my favorite bands from Detroit is the Dirtbombs, so I
guess it shouldn't come as a surprise that I'd end up liking
an act that has had some dealings with Cass Records, which
is owned by drummer Ben Blackwell. Although, it isn't
only the company they keep that grabs my attention, it's
mainly their retro pop rock sound. Keep an eye out for
Breath And Bone on May 26.
