Today's
Quick Mention: Yesterday I saw that Pitchfork had
an entire rundown on different artists that you can follow
on Twitter. Do you guys use that service a lot?
Should I try to give it a go for SOTO? It kind makes
me feel old in that I just don't see the point of it.
Please explain.
EP time!
Enjoy.
:I
Was A King - Norman Bleik:
This Norwegian band is not one that I've ever heard of, but
they managed to get Sufjan Stevens, Serena Maneesh,
Danielson and Ladybug Transistor to help out on their
upcoming debut. Obviously, that's some high quality
company, which means that they're either stellar or they
never take "no" for an answer. I'm - and this is based
only on this infectious tune - fairly certain it isn't the
latter. Their self titled LP will be out April 7 on
The Control Group, but there is a 7" available now.
:Stina
Stjern - The Horizon:
For the last
couple of week's I've been really loving Heartless Bastard's
latest album, The Mountain, so the simplistic, guitar
driven music and strong vocals from this Norwegian-based
artist had me hooked before its runtime hit the halfway
mark. I hope that I can get my hands on more soon.
By the way, just like her Norwegian counterparts above, she
has a 7" as well. Seek it out.
:Like
Bells - Atlas:
The majority of the instrumental music that I share is
either of the epic variety (Explosions In The Sky) or the
electronically-oriented (CFCF), which means that those of
you who hate both will finally have something to appreciate
in Like Bells and their playfully to the point sound.
The band just signed to Exit Stencil, so don't expect to see
their debut for the label until May. Until then, just
keep this nice number on repeat.
:Boy
In Static - Young San Francisco:
Every single time that I listen to this I expect it to
completely abandon everything and swan dive into an ocean of
overdone synths, but it doesn't. Party because of the
well placed violin and the reigned-in vocals, but mostly
because I think that Boy In Static just know better than to
cheese it up like that. Maybe more acts will figure
that out too. Fake Four Inc will release Candy
Cigarette in April.

Tania - Wonderstranger:
Here's an artist that has been making music since the
mid-90s and has opened for acts like the Breeders and Bikini
Kill, and I knew absolutely nothing about her until about a
week ago. It really isn't a small world. In any
case, I'm on the bandwagon now and I think you will be too
once she enchants you with this song, which is absolutely
fantastic. Moon Sweet Moon is available now.
