Finally
got around to seeing Frost/Nixon this weekend.
I thought it was good, but I'm not sure it was Best Picture
good. The first two acts, like the actual interviews,
flounder about in an almost uninteresting manner, and it's
only the third act, which details Nixon's on-camera crumble,
that actually shines. The Wrestler and The
Dark Knight are more deserving of that nomination, I
think.
One other thing, I had the privilege of seeing a screening
of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang with Shane Black in
attendance. He, of course, did a Q&A afterwards, so I
thought I would share some of what he said...
He'd like to remake Monster Squad,
but he doesn't have the rights.
He did complete a script for Lethal Weapon 5, but Mel Gibson
didn't want to do it because of concern that he would seem
desperate to all that are still upset with him.
KKBB showed him how great it is to be a director, so he will
probably only write for himself in the future. For
instance, Lethal Weapon 5 would have been shot by Shane, not
Richard Donner.
Val Kilmer once gave him a painting for his birthday, and
then a few days later asked for money to give the artist.
He's in the midst of casting his new movie.
He thinks that Hollywood has a lot of great technology, but
no good scripts to use, and that's why stuff like
Transformers gets met shrugged off and not celebrated.
He thought the Wrestler was OK.
And now here's the latest news. Read on.
