Today's Quick Mention: I didn't think it would happen (and I'm not
sure I fully believe it yet), but you know that rather large and unsettling
hole that the Beastie Boys' cancellation left in the ACL lineup? Well,
it's now occupied by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Should be fantastic.
I don't say it much, but one of the few artists that constantly makes me
stop and listen is Daniel Johnston. It's inconvenient, really, but
when I receive a new song (like I did yesterday) I love how excited I get.
Seriously. Daniel's new record, which was produced by Jason Falkner
(Beck, Paul McCartney), is titled Is And Always Was, and it will hit
store shelves on October 6. Enjoy.

This song caught me off guard. I mean, Daniel has
always been a brilliant songwriter, so the lyrical gems that
litter this were more than expected. However, the
music, which is simple, yet wonderfully layered, actually
ended up being why I really love it, and that's just
not how things function between Daniel and myself.
But, I approve. Can't wait to hear more.
