Today's Quick Mention: Austinites! While I highly
recommend that tonight you either snatch up tickets to see
Avenue Q
or drop by the nearest
Pluckers
for some trivia, I also think it wouldn't be terrible if you headed down to
Emo's for Electric Six.
Just saying.
After having a debut that was seemingly promoted for as long as I can
remember, Deer Tick have finally readied a new full length. Better
yet, along the way John J. McCauley III decided he could use some company
and recruited a trio of talented fellas. I call smart move.
Born On Flag Day is due June 23 via Partisan Records. Enjoy.

Tick - Easy:
I sort of expected the first single to be another Art
Isn't Real (City Of Sin) or Diamond Rings 2007
(you know, to remind people that Deer Tick is Deer Tick), so
to be treated to such a raucous piece of vintage rock was a
pleasant surprise. Speaking of the unexpected, I
certainly didn't imagine them ever getting so lyrically epic
- "Out of the door/With the devil in my eyes/That son of a
bitch crossed me once/But he won't cross me twice"
That's damn good stuff.
