With new responsibilities at
work, over a hundred emails with mp3s sitting in my inbox and a huge stack
of albums on my desk, I'm beginning to wonder if I'll manage to catch up
before the year ends. Don't be surprised if there are quite a few EPs
over the next few weeks.
Here's one now! Enjoy.
:The
Gentle Guest - Down At The Still:
This band really surprised me since not only do they sound
like a bizarre mix of alt-country rockers Langhorne Slim and
gypsy punks Gogol Bordello, but they're on Amble Down, which
is home to very not-raucous acts like Cranes And Crows, The
Wars Of 1812 and Meridene. Who would have guessed such
craziness? We Are Bound To Save Some Souls Tonight
(does that not come off as totally epic?) is due out at the
end of the month.
:Love
Is All - Big Bangs, Black Holes, Meteorites:
Those pop loving people over in Sweden usually don't stray
away from anything that isn't sugary and sweet, so I really
appreciate that this group adds some kick by way of a vocal
and musical assault on the ears that lasts the entire
duration of this track. Prepare to rock harder than
you probably ever have to a Swedish act. November will
see the release of A Hundred Things Keeps Me Up At Night.
:Hopewell
- Realms Of Gold:
This is not a band that I find myself anxiously awaiting
each release, but I will completely give them all the credit
in the world for churning out solid record and after solid
record. I mean, most bands can't even claim to have
done that, and judging by this gem these guys sound they'll
keep going strong for a long while to come. Tee Pee
Records released this as a teaser for Hopewell's fifth LP,
so keep an eye out for it.
:We
Landed On The Moon - Re Your Letter:
I have no explanation for it, but I'm a total sucker for
overindulgent, mid 90s style rock, and that is exactly what
this band is churning out. Not all of you will find it
as good as I do, but those of you who get it will more than
likely find this song lodged in your head with no hope of
removing it anytime soon. These Little Wars is
the band's sophomore effort, and it is set to be released on
December 16.
:Restavrant
- Joe D:
After the crazy week that I've had I think it's fitting that
I cap it off with this duo from Texas, who have a strangely
infectious sound that comes off essentially as two guys who
one day randomly decided to spend the rest of their lives
stomping their feet and having a ball. Maybe we all
should consider that approach as well. Restavrant
Returns To The Tomb Of Guiliano Medici can be purchased
starting September 30.
