Hey! After 16 days of
traveling from Seattle, Washington to San Diego, California the wife and I
have made it back home. I could probably go on forever about the
various things that we saw and did throughout our trip, but for the sake of
your patience I'll just say that it was a brilliant experience.
Now, let's get back to the music. Here's an EP of the big acts that
put out singles while I was gone. Enjoy.
:Her
Space Holiday - Sleepy Tigers:
When I noticed this gem sitting in my inbox I immediately
expected something similar to 2005's awesome and
electronic-oriented The Past Presents The Future.
Instead, my ears ended up being filled with a wondrous
organic sound that actually made me more excited
about Marc Bianchi (he's the main brain behind the project)
and the upcoming XOXO, Panda And The New Kid Revival.
It's due out October 7 on Mush Records.
:Annuals
- Confessor:
When this group followed up their raw debut with a super
slick split EP with Sunfold (the other group that is
Annuals, but everyone has a different role) I kind of
figured that their new full length would be moving on from
the spastic joy that occupied Be He Me. As of
now, it seems as if I guessed right. This is a
beautiful, sweeping anthem that does more to calm the nerves
than anything else. I don't mind. Do you?
Such Fun will be released on Canvasback Music in
October.
:Times
New Viking - Call And Respond:
I've given Rip It Off plenty of listens throughout
the year, so I was pretty happy to see that the band's new
EP is more of the same super loud, overly fuzzy and oddly
catchy material. Still, it makes me wonder if they'll
always keep this style of recording or if one day they'll
ditch it in favor of something completely different.
Expect to see Matador deliver the Stay Awake 7" to
store shelves towards the end of October.
:Deerhoof
- Offend Maggie:
So, what did Deerhoof decide to do after making their most
accessible record to date? They followed it up with
another easy to love effort, of course! Seriously
though, I think this snazzy gem shows that they're only
going to continue to get better at putting together some of
best quirky pop rock tracks that anyone has to offer.
This is the title song off the new full length, which will
be out October 7 on Kill Rock Stars.
:Jenny
Lewis - Acid Tongue:
It's no secret that I had very mixed feelings about Jenny's
first solo record, but after hearing the atrocity that was
Rilo Kiley's last effort I'm more than ready to have her
branch out on her own. Plus, this song is just stellar
enough to have me chomping at the bit to hear it in the
context of whatever she's put together. Acid Tongue
will be released on September 23.
