Before I get on with today's
music, I have to congratulate TXRD's Holy Rollers for their victory over the
Hellcats this past Saturday. This is the second time in a row that
they've won the Calvello Cup! Also, just in case you were wondering,
the wife is still in training to join the league next season - the draft is
in December.
Here's an EP. Enjoy.
:The
Legends - Seconds Away:
Noise pop is probably as popular as it will ever be, so it
doesn't surprise me that people (by people, I mean blogs)
everywhere are jumping on bandwagons of acts that have
different takes on the genre. Here, the Legends keep
that beyond-loud distortion, but when it comes to the vocals
there's more of a shoegaze-esque kind of approach. I
think it works really well. Do you? The
Seconds Away single will be out November 5 via Labrador.

On Jean - Tonight:
The creator of this act is Molly Shnick, who some of you may
know as the cellist for the now defunct Out Hud. I've
never heard a single track from her old band, but I do think
this is as interesting and lush as it gets. So,
regardless of what was done in Out Hud, I'm happy that she's
doing this now. You should seek out her self titled
debut when Kanine releases it next month.

Danburry - I'm Pretty Sure:
As I'm sure you already know, I'm a complete sucker for pop
that's breezy and has a penchant for entering your head with
the intention of never leaving, and this is what Drew is
doing here with this number. I just wish that I had
been able to share this back in the summer, which is where
it and its fun ways really belong. This Could Mean
Trouble, You Don't Speak For The Club will be out later
in the year.

- Black Fur:
Before you give this a listen you must break out the
headphones, as this is one gorgeous effort that is entirely
deserving of your complete attention. The band, of
course, is from Sweden, the place that can make anything
beautiful (see: the Legends and their take on noise pop),
and their new full length is titled Na Na Ni.
You will want it when Kora Records places it on store
shelves on October 28.
:Wilderness
- Strand The Test Of Time:
I can't say that I was that big of an admirer the first time
that I gave this this Baltimore, Maryland act's song a
listen, but it has really turned out to be one of my recent
favorites, so I'm beyond happy that I gave it a few more
chances. Do not let the fact that it's Monday and you
have no patience ruin this one for you! Jagjaguwar is
set to release the band's new full length on November 4.
I can't wait.
