So, last night I caught an
early screening of Ridley Scott's new flick, Body Of Lies. I
don't want to say too much about it since I'm planning on doing a full
review before the weekend, but you should know that I didn't leave the
theater with the most positive of impressions. Speaking of such meh-like
musings, that's how I normally feel when it comes to the Decemberists.
Now, I realize that for some of you that remark will cause acute pain to the
brain, but take solace in the fact that I'm slowly coming around with my
affection for Colin Meloy's recent solo effort and the act's upcoming
Always The Bridesmaid 7" single series. If only someone (hint:
you) would go on and put together the best Decemberists mixtape of all time
so that I could really catch up. Enjoy.
:The
Decemberists - Valerie Plame:
I've been really wanting a great, breezy pop song to fall
into my lap and completely force me to keep it on repeat
forever, and this is totally it. Colin's storytelling
style is compelling in the most charming of ways, the
arrangement is light on its feet with an easy to love mix of
horns and other warm touches and, most importantly, it's
just plain fun. You Decemberists fans are surely all
over this with open arms, but if you're like me and have
always been on the fence then this will certainly be the
tune that will convince you to pick the "preferred" side
over the "avoid" one.
I probably
should have went with an actual tune, but I just couldn't
pass up the opportunity to share Colin Meloy rambling about
this favorite album while wearing a paper mustache.
