You know how I am certain that
I'm a super huge nerd? When I get excited about Target having a case
for the Iron Man DVD that looks like the Mark IV helmet.
Here's an EP. Enjoy.
:The
Age Of Rockets - Elephants And Castle:
It has been a long while since I listened to The Drive
Home, which is the record that introduced me to this
act, but that doesn't mean I haven't been looking forward to
something new from them. Nope, I'd say it just shows
how brilliantly patient I am. Or something.
Anyhow, this is lush electro-pop with a dash of emo vocals,
and you need to hear it - preferably with a nice pair of
headphones. Hannah is available now.
:Gringo
Star - All Yall:
To be honest, this is more of an band that I know by name
more so than any of there music. I think, however, that will
change with their upcoming Ben H. Allen-produced (Gnarls
Barkley, Animal Collective) debut full length. At this
point I've only worked my way through about half of it, but
so far it's a pretty rocking record that, like the title
track, has a load of smart touches and infectious energy
coming out all over the place. My Anxious Mouth
Records will release it to all on November 4.
:The
Rollo Treadway - Kidnapped:
If anyone asked me to guess what ever happened to Blake
Fleming, who was the original drummer for the Mars Volta, I
would not have went with the option that read 60s style pop
with a slight hint of psychedelic. I mean, that just
isn't the overwhelmingly logical choice. At any rate,
he and the other four members of the band seem to be doing
pretty well together since I can't seem to take this gem off
of repeat. Take down a note to remind yourself to pick
up their self titled record with it's released on December
16.
:The
Antlers - Two:
Apart from that Beach House cover that they released a few
months back, I don't really know much about this act.
In fact, I'm not even sure if I'm suppose to know all that
much about them since as I'm writing this they're embarking
on their first ever tour! I will say this though, this
song and that cover are both good enough to make me wish
they had an Austin date on their itinerary. Hospice
won't be out until 2009, so expect to see me mention them
again.
:Tusks
- Baby Noise:
White Whale has put out some interesting records this year
from the likes of Culture Reject and Octoberman, so I'm all
ready for another sure to be quality release. This
super group of sorts is made up of people who have been in
Kepler, Wooden Stars, I Am Robot And Proud, Sea Snakes,
Snailhouse, Clark/Metal Kites, Hilotrons and the Ben Gunning
Band. I think that's a lot of experience and styles to
get at least a little excited about, so get to listening!
Their self titled EP is available as of yesterday.
