The original plan that I had in
mind to make your Thursday better was an EP, but then I happened upon a
rather nice cover from My Brightest Diamond and I simply lost all focus.
You know, as if she's been missing in action for years. Seriously
though, I sort of find my high level of excitement for a contribution to a
compilation of non-original material (aka Guilt By Association: Volume 2)
kind of strange, but I suppose that if I throw in my interest that stems
from the EPs that are re-imagining/remixing her latest effort, A Thousand
Sharks Teeth, then I can see why I'm treating this as if she's been gone
forever. Anyways, just get on with listening to the song below and
devising a way to cut out of work early tomorrow. Enjoy.
:My
Brightest Diamond - Tainted Love (Gloria Jones Cover):
This has definitely been a song that's seen its fair share
of radio ready incarnations, so I love that Shara Worden
decided to merely lean in that direction. That means
she gets to use that beautiful, haunting voice of hers to
add a little weight to the lyrics and the quick pace of
previous versions remains as is - it's actually a new twist
on a tune that's had a lot of takers. To me, that's
honestly as good as a cover can get.
Surprisingly,
Youtube had no quality recordings of Shara doing her
favorite Nina Simone number. So, instead here she is
performing Something Of An End. Be sure to
close the ads that the uploader annoyingly included and,
more importantly, notice how the crowd wisely goes from
overly chatty to silent by the end of the song.
