Just so you know, this is being written before a single vote has been counted.  So, all I have to say is that I'm glad Austin employs a click-wheel and button system for ballot casting (touch screens just seem like trouble) and I really appreciate that somewhere around 50% of Travis County voted early, which means that I didn't have to wait in line at all.

Here's a post-election day EP.  Enjoy.

:Paper Route - Empty House:  There's a chance that some of you are already aware of this act since their debut EP dropped back in July, but for those (like me) that missed out you're in for a real treat.  This Nashville-based act is one of those that doesn't necessarily have a sound that I would call their own - it's more of a well balanced mix of indie/rock/electro-pop - so when you listen it's got that nice feeling of familiarity.  We Are All Forgotten can be found over at Low Altitude Records.

:Starflyer59 - The Brightest Of The Head:  I would have already mentioned this band's latest album, but the label didn't seem to want to give out a track before the album hit store shelves.  Understandable, I suppose.  Anyhow, I really like this song.  It isn't necessarily anything mind-blowing, but it's easy on the ears and I appreciate how it reminds me that for over 15 years this act has been chugging along and pumping out one solid record after another.  Tooth & Nail just put out Dial M last week, so it should be in just about every store's "featured" section.

:Arliss Parker - Taken To Antrim:  Over the course of 2008 I've grown rather fond of various styles of instrumental tracks.  Before I preferred the long, slow-building epic kind, but now I very much dig tracks like this that offer short bursts of intriguing and well done arrangements.  Perhaps it's because they require less effort?  I'm not sure, but like I said - I know that the more varieties I come across the more I like.  You should remember to get lost in Arliss Parker's Handsome Like A Lion when it's released on November 25.

:Meridene - Kill The Memory:  As if Noah's insistence wasn't enough, Amble Down's constant onslaught of quality releases has started to push them to that point where they've become one of my favorite labels.  This group, which is the sister act to a recent favorite of mine, the Gentle Guest, is that sort of indie rock that'll have you ready to sing-a-long very quickly, so I hope you're ready to use that pretty voice of yours.  The nicely titled You're Not Pretty, You're Worse is set to be released on November 25.

:Hooray For Earth - Take Care:  According to this band's press release they've had a very long history of people not being able to find the word's to properly describe them.  I can see how that could be worn as a badge of honor or something, but for my money I think they fall into the same category that I put Paper Route (one of the above acts) in - they do a little bit of everything well.  Sounds fair, right?  No need for far-out references here!  Watch out for their self titled full length in January on Dopamine Records.
