Have
you guys caught a screening of Zack And Miri Make
A Porno yet? The wife and I went to the
Alamo Drafthouse to see it on Friday and, while it
was pretty damn funny, I couldn't help but feel that
it was basically Kevin Smith doing his best Judd
Apatow impression. Is everyone just going to
emulate that guy now?
Anyhow, here's some news. Read on.
- The Rundown -
It looks as
if Paramount will bring in Sony to help finance Steven
Spielberg and Peter Jackson's Tintin trilogy,
which could cost almost $150 million before marketing
and such is even factored in.
David Lindsay-Abaire, who won a Pulitzer last year for
the stage play Rabbit Hole, has been hired to pen
the script for Spider-Man 4.
Joel Silver has signed on to produce a remake of
Forbidden Planet. The original, which was made
in 1956, followed an expedition to a far off planet to
find out what happened to the scientists there.
Samuel L. Jackson has joined the cast of Inglorious
Basterds as a narrator.
The graphic novel Preacher may be on the verge of being
adapted by Sam Mendes. Its story follows a
preacher who embarks on a journey to eliminate the
supernatural evil that destroyed his hometown.
Last week I mentioned that Dr. Strange might be
next on Marvel's slate of characters to adapt.
This week I'm letting you know that the rumored number
one choice to play the lead role is none other than
Christian Bale. Anyone really think he'll sign on
for another one of those sure-to-be trilogies? My
guess is no.
In other Marvel news, it was confirmed that Robert
Downey Jr. has a four-picture deal with the studio that
says he will appear in future Iron Man and
Avengers movies. Also, Jon Favreau will
executive produce the Avengers when that time
comes.
Writer Mark Millar has been throwing around the idea of
a Superman trilogy that would span the titular
character's entire life.
Gary Oldman and Denzel Washington will star in Book
Of Eli, which is a post-apocalyptic tale about one
man's quest to save society.
There's a rumor floating around that says Ron Perlman
may replace Bruce Campbell as Elvis in the upcoming
Bubba Nosferatu And The Curse Of The She-Vampires.
For reasons beyond me, a remake of The Last Dragon
is underway. Samuel L. Jackson has been cast as
Sho'nuff.
M. Night Shyamalan will start his Night Chronicles
series (he writes, others direct) with Devil.
No word on what it's about, but John and Andrew Dowdle (Quarantine)
will direct.
Villians is all set to be adapted. The
comic is about a young man who discovers that his
neighbor is an old super villian.
Vince Vaughn will star in Sunny And 68, which is
about a poker player who has a break down on national TV
because of alcohol-related problems.
Rumor has it that Zack Efron may star in a remake of
Footloose.
Universal is getting ready to make Skyscraper.
The film is said to be about a mile high tower that must
be fixed before it falls on the city of Chicago.
