It
took me an eternity to get around to it, but last
night I finally attended my first Rollergirl match
down at the Austin Convention Center. It was
the Holy Rollers vs the Hellcats, and it was quite
an awesome bout with both teams keeping it close
until the 4th quarter, where the latter of the two
committed a few too many crucial penalties and fell
behind. I honestly can't wait until another
match comes up.
To celebrate my overwhelming approval of women on
roller skates I put together an EP. Enjoy.

- If You Want To, You Have To:
It's sort of strange, but this refreshing tune has made me
realize that much of the instrumental music that I listen to
is some form of slow building, post-rock madness. I
need to lighten up on that front. Anyway, you'll be
able to find this song on Dosh's upcoming full length,
Wolves And Wishes, which is due out on May 13 via
Anticon. I'm thinking it should be an all around good
listen.
:The
Royal Bangs - New Scissors:
Back around the time of Annuals' Be He Me there was a
lot of talk about how they sounded like a bunch of the
scene's top acts all rolled into one. I sort of
agreed, but I think that statement actually applies to this
act more. Both the arrangement and boy/girl vocals
reach out and cull certain elements from just about
everywhere, so in the end it becomes a familiar listen with
a band you don't know. It's good stuff, and that's why
I'm recommending that you seek out We Breed Champions
when it's released on May 13.
:The
M's - Big Sound:
I hate to say this, but until last week I had not thought
about this band at all in somewhere around two years.
That's sort of terrible, especially since I really liked
Future Women. At any rate, if their upcoming
Polyvinyl effort, Real Close Ones, ends up being as
catchy and wondrous as this fuzzy gem then it may be a long
time before I don't have them in my head. I guess
we'll see come June.

- Catherine The Waitress:
If you guessed that at some point in this EP there would be
an incredibly catchy pop number that you'll struggle with
trying to move on from then you would be right, because
that's exactly what this is. Although, I bet you
didn't predict that this would also sound like the making
for a romantic movie of loveable proportions. Cheap
Lullaby will be putting out, The Singer, for your
listening pleasure.
:Olga
Bell - Echinacea:
I thought it would take a little longer before this
happened, but in this artist I have the first entry into my
list of "acts that played SXSW that I didn't know existed
until afterwards." To make matters worse, Olga Bell's
EP is one of the more interesting listens that I've come
across so far in 2008, and it would have been a treat to
hear the tracks live. If you only pick one song to
check out in the EP then it needs to be this perfectly
crafted, swirling three minutes of sonic bliss. You
won't regret it.
