There are two things that I don't understand.  One is why the Celtics didn't seem even remotely interested in winning Game 3 in LA last night, and the other is why Pitchfork gave Cassettes Won't Listen's fantastic Small-Time Machine EP a 4.0.  Can you guess which one is a bigger surprise?  Discuss!  Actually, there is no need to get all crazy.  Let's just talk Computer Vs Banjo, call it a day and retreat to out quarters with our heads held high.  Or something.  Anyhow, some of you jazz/funk aficionados may actually know the guys that make up the act, as Johnny Man used to be the lead guitarist for Gran Torino and Beau Stapleton played tenor guitar and mandolin in Blue Merle.  Their debut will be out next Tuesday on Diagram Records.  Enjoy.

:Computer Vs Banjo - San Joaquin:  The duo's album has a diverse sound that sways back and forth and constantly uses numerous instruments to keep your attention, but this quiet number that feels like a semi-electronic Murder By Death is by far my favorite.  The deep, rustic vocals are fantastic and could probably work on their own, but alongside some banjo plucking and the subtle presence of well placed details (like hand claps) it becomes a gem worth remembering.  Try it with a good pair of headphones!

There is absolutely nothing special happening in this video for Guitars Need A Sinner's Touch, but it has a worn and comfortable feel that certainly deserves a moment of your time.   Try not to zone-out too much.
