As I said earlier in the week,
tomorrow I turn 25. It's going to be a joyful occasion (or something),
so I'm going to take the weekend off from SOTO to lounge around and live it
up. That's right, no podcast or film update. It'll just be Noah
and John Michael here to help get you through the weekend.
All is not totally lost, though, as I've prepared a nice EP. Enjoy.
:David
Vandervelde - I Will Be Fine:
I really liked David's last album, The Moonstation
House-Band, but considering that it was released just
last year I'm a little surprised to see that he has already
put together another LP. Although, I suppose the more
noteworthy part of all this is that even if I had known of
the new record I would not have guessed that he would leave
behind the 70s fuzzy pop rock of songs like Nothin' No
for the softer, smoother side of the era that is this gem.
Thank whoever it still works. Waiting for the
Sunrise is out in August.
:The
Daredevil Christopher Wright - The East Coast:
I'm definitely not as attached to the good folks over at
Amble Down as much as Noah is, but with me unable to get
this this swirling set of pretty vocals and even prettier
instrumentation out of my head I think I'm going to have to
take a seat next to my weekend columnist on the label's
bandwagon. The act's debut album, In Deference To A
Broken Back, will be out later this year.
:The
Uglysuit - Chicago:
I love Touch And Go Records, but the "check out how fun they
are because they're young" angle that they seemed to be
going with for this band just isn't doing it for me.
Personally, I think the Oklahoma-based act is good enough to
not need such a gimmick, but what do I know? I don't
run a fancy label. At any rate, I recommend listening
to this in the car since it has a sound that works well as a
good road trip tune. Their self titled debut will be
out in August.
:Happy
Anarchy - Is That Right:
If you're scanning over these quick quips for the song
that'll make you want to bounce around your home and
sing-a-long loudly then this would be the track you're
looking for. It starts out like your normal pop fare,
but it doesn't take too long to rev up to the point of sonic
overload, so be sure to give it a few moments.
Reset is currently available on Highlark Records.
:What
Laura Says - July 23:
Earlier in the week I mentioned Sunfold, their upcoming full
length and their involvement with Annuals' (which is really
Sunfold and vice versa) Terpsikhore Records. Well, the
other act that the label will be pushing this year is What
Laura Says. I haven't heard anything from them except
for this track, but judging by it I think we'll be getting a
slew of pop tunes with a lot of atmosphere. Thinks
And Feels? will be out at some point in 2008.
