As was the case with Hellboy
II: The Golden Army, a shortage of time is going to prevent me from
writing a full review of The Dark Knight before it hits theaters on
Friday. So, I'll just note that I thought it was beyond incredible,
and this was with enormously high expectations. Now if only I could
travel a few days into the future and see it at the IMAX! Speaking of
things coming up that I wouldn't mind having right now, there's a new Parts
& Labor record titled Receivers. It'll be the band's first
with drummer Joe Wong (he's replacing Chris Weingarten) and guitarist Sarah
Lipstate, and it has a bunch of fan-submitted samples and such, but I'm sure
that all will be well. Jagjaguwar won't be putting the album on store shelves everywhere until
October, so prepare to be patient. Enjoy.
:Parts
& Labor - Nowheres Nigh:
To be honest, this song confuses the hell of out of me.
In so many great ways it's essentially the perfect,
summer-enthused blend of noise rock and sensible pop, but it
also packs a punch with lyrics that demand your attention.
I mean, tapping my foot and living it up is difficult when
I'm left to ponder lines like "We all deny we left our
destiny behind" and "Consumption is our plight." Know
what I'm saying?
For whatever
reasons I never got around to checking out all of the band's
last album, Mapmaker, but one of the cuts that I did
hear and love was The Gold We're Digging. Check
it out.
