Just so you know, Sarah did well at tryouts on Saturday and made the cut.  All she has to do now to be able to officially call herself a rollergirl is complete a whopping 90 days of TXRD training.  Cross your fingers!  OK, I have a lot of upcoming things that I could share today, but instead of any of that I'm going the way of semi-new so that I can ramble about the Menahan Street Band.  The soulful Brooklyn-based project is centered around Thomas Brenneck, who most of you will probably recognize as the guitarist for the Dap-Kings and the Budos Band, and after years of working in the bedroom he is ready to release a debut.  Make The Road By Walking will be out on Dunham Records (it's a subsidiary of Daptone Records) in October.  Enjoy.

:Menahan Street Band - Make The Road By Walking:  When I said I wanted to provide some music that was essentially semi-new it was mostly because of this song, which was actually sampled by Jay-Z last year for Roc Boys (And The Winner Is).  He mostly went with the hook and nothing else (totally understandable, as it works really well in that song), but all of the exquisiteness of the original is something that shouldn't be missed.  You'll want headphones for this.

I almost shared the Jay-Z video, but then I came across The World (Is Going Up In Flames).  It's the Menahan Street Band with Charles Bradley, and it is amazing.  The video itself, however, is sort of useless, so just listen and love.
