- Sharon Jones And The Dap-Kings - Antone's - Austin, TX -

- Ivan Milev Band -

Admittedly, Balkan/Bulgarian music is not something that I would probably enjoy in my spare time.  However, there wasn't a single moment during the duo's 45 minute set that wasn't a good time.  In particular, I really enjoyed the way that each sound from their instruments generated a specific facial expression.  It was almost as if you didn't even need to hear anything as long as you could see their faces.

If you're planning on seeing Sharon Jones then at least know that it's alright to show up early.  You will be entertained.

- Sharon Jones And The Dap-Kings -

It's a little difficult to explain a Sharon Jones And The Dap-Kings performance without wanting to only type exclamation points and expletives.  So, for the sake of this ramble I'll try to just sum it up in one word.

Incredible.

It's what I thought from the moment she took the stage all the way through when the Dap-Kings had the entire sold out crowd at Atone's yelling "I need more" before the encore.  Plus, it was an actual show.  One that had an elaborate 15-minute intro by the Dap-Kings, a lot of passionate story telling by Sharon and an actual outro.  I mean, I never really thought about it before but most artists come out, play and then leave you without much to latch onto, which is kind of a shame.

Anyhow, this was the best all around live experience that I've had the pleasure of attending in a very long time, and I couldn't possibly recommend it more.
