Well,
it's time for another weekly update on some of the
more noteworthy happenings in the film world during
the past week. Before I get to those though, I
want to take a second to say that I'll miss Heath
Ledger. He wasn't necessarily a guy that made
me wait anxiously for his next film, but he was one
of those actors that I knew would do a good job in
whatever he role was cast in. I sincerely hope
that he bowls people over with his work as the Joker
in this summer's A Dark Knight. Goodbye
Mr. Ledger.

The Rundown -
Steve
Carell's
Get Smart
has a trailer up. I'm not exactly sure how I feel
about it, but it doesn't necessarily look like it will
be awful. Hopefully. Probably.
The
BBC is saying
that the name of the upcoming James Bond movie is
Quantum Of Solace. Apparently the plot
kicks off about an hour after the events of Casino
Royale.
Rumors are swirling that not only will Ryan Gosling will
be the next Jack Ryan, but Fernando Meirelles (City Of
God, City Of Men) will direct.
While Heath Ledger's work on A Dark Knight is
complete, his work on Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium
Of Dr. Parnassus is not. This has lead to some
rumblings that Johnny Depp may step into Heath's
character since there is a moment in the film where he
falls through a magic mirror, and it wouldn't be too far
fetched to have another actor play the same role.
Walt Disney will be making the third installment of the
Toy Story series a 3D film. There are also
plans to release the first two movies in 3D during the
months leading up to the June 18, 2009 target date.
Colin Brady has been replaced by David Bowers (Flushed
Away) on the upcoming CG-animated Astro Boy.
Tony Gilroy, the director of Michael Clayton, has
a new project titled Duplicity. The
corporate-spy themed flick currently has Clive Owen and
Julia Roberts attached, and there is talk about adding
Tom Wilkinson and Billy Bob Thornton.
Oliver Stone has stated that his next film is about the
President and will be called Bush. Josh
Brolin is currently set to star.
Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Jarhead) will be doing a
comedy next. The movie doesn't have a title yet,
but it will deal with a couple driving around the
country looking for a good place to raise their unborn
child.
Beyonce will join Cadillac Records, which is
about the rise and fall of Chess Records, as Etta James.
The cast already includes Adrien Brody and Jeffrey
Wright.
Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood) is mulling
whether or not to make his next project a horror film.
Jason Stratham let loose that he met with people about
playing Namor in the Sub-Mariner.
The vampire flick Cirque
Du Freak has added Ken Watanabe to a cast that
already includes Salma Hayek and John C. Reilly.
John Cleese has joined Keanu Reeves and Jennifer
Connelly for the remake of The Day The Earth Stood
Still. It's currently set to open on December
12, 2008.
The new Rambo movie apparently features a super high
kill count. Over 230 people! Check out the
detail
here.
